Melissa O’Neill’s Caspian Prince routed a competitive 16-runner field of sprinters at Dieppe today when dropping down in trip to 1100m for the first time. Although a previous 2-time winner over 1400m, including his season reappearance, Caspian Prince fully justified Eoghan’s decision to drop back in distance in a €22,000 conditions race over Dieppe’s straight 1100m course in the hands of jockey Mirco Demuro. This gelded son of Dylan Thomas out of a Rainbow Quest mare has always raced a little freely, however no one could have foreseen how much he would relish a test of speed. He simply quickened away inside the last 300m to easily win by 3-lengths, a short-neck and 2-lengths. Caspian Prince will continue to contest sprint trips this season and he has earned a step up in grade next time. Today’s win brings his career earnings to €44,300 to date.
